About Assistant Controller Position:
 
This is a full-time, in-person, salaried Accounting Management position reporting directly to the Director of Finance.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in managing the accounting operations including the review of journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and statutory reporting
  • Responsible for first review of completed monthly financial statements
  • Period, quarter, and year-end close and consolidation process
  • Perform/Review weekly, Period-end, and Year-end reconciliations
  • Direct the monthly close process, including balance sheet account reconciliations and analytical review procedures, and variance analysis
  • Full cycle accounting
  • Assist the Director of Finance in managing the external accountants during the year-end review process
  • Oversee the training and development of financial accounting team, delegate duties and execute authority to meet departmental and organizational goals
  • Assist with the annual budgeting process
  • Responsible for performing/reviewing tax payments and ensuring timely payment to the government. (i.e. WSIB, HST, etc) and ensuring that these accounts are reconciled each and every period
  • 5 direct reports
  • Other special projects as assigned by the Director of Finance
Position Requirements:
  • 3-4 years of financial reporting experience, with at least 2 years at the management level
  • Post-Secondary degree in Business
  • Professional Accounting designation
  • Sound knowledge and application of accounting standards and principles
  • Strong supervisory skills, including the ability to take charge, ensure accountability as well as provide leadership and guidance
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills
  • Comfortable communicating with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to motivate and develop Team Members to their full potential
  • Expert level computer skills
  • Results oriented team player
  • Must be hands-on but also possess the ability to deal with higher level issues
